Scope & Competition Entry Formats

Articles 1 – 5

1. Scope of these Regulations

Art. 1

The KDC Ballet & Contemporary Dance Regulations govern all Ballet and Contemporary Dance disciplines presented at the Kalamata Dance Cup. These regulations apply specifically to:

• Classical Ballet Variation
• Neoclassical Ballet
• Contemporary Dance
• Modern Dance
• Acro-Modern
• Ballet Ensemble

Forms part of the KDC General Competition Regulations 2026.

2. Age Categories Structure

Art. 2
Petite: Born 2018, 2017, 2016
Mini: Born 2015, 2014, 2013
Junior: Born 2012, 2011, 2010
Senior: Born 2009, 2008, 2007
Amateur (Adult): 2006 & earlier (<3 yrs / <4 classes/wk)
Professional: Teaches, earns income, or >4 classes/wk

3 & 4. Age Determination & Average Age

Art. 3 - 4

Year of Birth: Age categorization is strictly determined by the calendar year of birth. Month and day are not used.

Duet & Ensemble Average Age: Calculated by adding the ages of all participating dancers and dividing by the total number of dancers.

Sum of Ages ÷ Number of Dancers = Average Age

5. Competition Entry Formats

Depending on the discipline, KDC accepts the following official formats:

Solo Pas de Deux / Duet Ensemble / Group (Min. 3 Dancers)

Articles 6 – 14

6. Classical Ballet & Ensemble

Art. 6

Competitors perform a recognized variation from the original Classical Ballet repertoire. Substantial alterations are prohibited. Ballet Ensemble requires a minimum of 3 dancers based on classical technique.

7 & 8. Repertoire & Neoclassical Ballet

Art. 7 - 8

Repertoire is restricted by age (Annex C-A) to ensure safe technical progression. Neoclassical Ballet retains classical technique while incorporating contemporary lines, dynamics, and musicality.

9 & 10. Contemporary Dance & Distinction

Art. 9 - 10

Based on established principles (Release, Limón, Graham, Horton, floorwork, falls & recovery).

Technical Rule: Works relying primarily on acrobatics, gymnastics, or circus elements must NOT be entered as Contemporary; enter under Acro-Modern.

11 & 12. Modern Dance & Acro-Modern

Art. 11 - 12

Modern Dance: Combines Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, Commercial, and Experimental movement.

Acro-Modern: Incorporates acrobatic elements while remaining fundamentally dance-based.

Music, Props, Stage Safety & Status

Articles 15 – 22

15-17. Music Submissions & Failure Protocol

Art. 15 - 17
  • Music submitted via official KDC registration portal before deadline.
  • Mandatory USB Backup: Dancers must have a working backup copy on a USB drive at the venue.
  • Technical Interruption: If music fails due to organizer technical error, repeat performance is permitted without penalty.

18-20. Stage Props & Safety Regulations

Art. 18 - 20
  • No dangerous equipment: Props must not endanger dancers or damage the stage surface.
  • Prior Approval: Substantial props require photo/dimension submission prior to competition.
  • Rapid Removal: Stage must be completely cleared immediately after performance.

21-22. Category Integrity & Status Honesty

Art. 21 - 22

Participants must register in the category that accurately reflects their principal technical style and amateur/professional status. In cases of serious category mismatch or status misrepresentation, the Organizing Committee reserves the right to reclassify entries under the KDC General Regulations.

ANNEX C-A

KDC CLASSICAL BALLET REPERTOIRE & VARIATIONS LIST 2026

Article 24 (Unlisted Repertoire): Competitors wishing to perform a recognized variation not listed above must declare it during registration for Organizing Committee review. Absence from the list does NOT constitute automatic approval.

Articles 25 & 26: Annex C-A forms an integral part of the official 2026 Regulations. Participants must respect the discipline, jury, fellow dancers, and the stage.
